FAQs

  1. ? Product Overview

What is included in the Blackbriar Echo (LR) System package?
    The system includes:

    • 1 Echo (LR) Base Station

    • 1 Echo (LR) Target Sensor

    • 2 Industrial Hook and Loop (Velcro) patches

    • 2 Extra antennas
    • 1 USB-C charging cable

    • 1 Lanyard for the Base Station

    ? Setup and Operation

How do I power the system on and off?

    • Power On: Press and hold the center button for 1.5 seconds until it illuminates. Wait 3 seconds for the light to blink, indicating readiness.

    • Power Off: Press and hold the button until the light turns off.

How do I attach the Target Sensor to the target?

    • Clean the target with the provided alcohol pad.

    • Attach the hook and loop patch about 2 inches from the target edge.

    • Let the adhesive cure for at least 1 hour (ideally 24).

    • Attach the Target Sensor, ensuring the antenna is exposed and the body is shielded by the target.

Why use Velcro instead of magnets?
Magnets shattered during testing and slid down the target face after repeated impacts. Velcro proved more durable and reliable.

    ? Power and Charging

How do I charge the Base Station and Target Sensor?

    • Connect the provided USB-C cable to the charging port.

    • Plug the other end into a power source (wall adapter, battery bank, or computer).

    • The button illuminates red during charging and turns green when fully charged (~4 hours for full charge).

Can I use a battery bank to charge during use?
Yes, both the Base Station and Target Sensor can operate while connected to a battery bank.

How can I check the battery status?
Momentarily press the Base Station’s power button to initiate a system test. It will audibly report battery status for all connected Target Sensors and the Base Station.

    ? Functionality and Features

What is the communication range of the system?
The Echo reliably operates up to 2 miles. It's worth noting that in our testing, we were able to achieve over 5 miles by elevating the base station antenna approximately 15ft with a pigtail extension.

Can I use multiple systems in the same area?
Yes, synchronize channel settings between the Base Station and Target Sensors. Use unique channels for different setups to avoid interference.

Can I change the Target ID?
Yes, each Target Sensor has an adjustable Target ID knob.

Can I adjust delay and sensitivity?
Yes, use the sensitivity/delay knob on the Target Sensor for fine-tuning.

Can I set different modes for different Target Sensors?
No, the Base Station’s mode setting applies to all connected Target Sensors.

Can I adjust the Base Station volume?
Yes, use the volume knob to set your preferred audio level.

    ? Maintenance and Troubleshooting

What should I do if the Target Sensor isn’t detecting impacts or gives false positives?

    • Check attachment, channel settings, sensitivity/delay, power status, and battery level.

    • For false positives, ensure no environmental vibrations and increase delay time.

What if there’s intermittent or no communication?

    • Confirm matching channels, remove obstructions, maintain line of sight, and elevate the Base Station if needed.

    Are the antennas replaceable?
Yes, and extra antennas are included in the package.

What should I do if the Base Station announces "Low Battery"?
Recharge the Base Station using the provided USB-C charging cable.

Who should I contact for support?
Email our support team at info@blackbriarindustries.com for assistance.

    ? Compatibility and Usage

Can I use the system with handguns and rifles?
Yes, as long as the targets meet the recommended caliber, distance, and thickness specifications.

Can I use it with airsoft or non-lethal targets?
The system is designed for hardened steel targets. Use with other projectiles is at the user’s discretion and may not perform as expected.

Can I use the system in different shooting scenarios?
Yes, it adapts to long-range shooting environments with compatible targets.

Can I use the system in inclement weather?
It’s durable but should be protected from heavy rain, snow, and extreme conditions.

    Is the system patent pending?
Yes, Blackbriar Industries holds a patent pending for the Echo (LR) system.

Is it compatible with Power Delivery (PD) charging?
No, it operates on standard 5V charging (~2.9W).

Does it have Bluetooth or smartphone connectivity?
No, Bluetooth is not supported, but we’re considering it for future versions.

Can I mount the Target Sensor on the front of the target?
No, the Target Sensor must be mounted on the back of a hardened steel target.
